I bought these out of curiosity of course. And they were on special. I loved the mix of green and purple in their skin. In retrospect, I should have cut one up and draw the purple flesh as well. I wrote down how i mixed the paint to see which approach I liked best. I have not decided yet ....

Art Tutor tip
Every now and then I get an email from the Art Tutor. This time it was a short tutorial about painting trees and I could not help but try it.
I am quite pleased with the results. What I like most is that there is no green in these sketches - only yellows, blues and some earth colors. Now if only I find a way to paint the foliage and I am done with the greenery :) Of course, i also have to remember to use this method in the field. I recently sketched a tree using this method and I forgot the branches!

Birds of a feather
These birds are sketches done in vine charcoal from book illustrations. I did not like the charcoal on watercolor paper so I added pen and doodles. On the right page, I drew the bird using an eye dropper. Exercise from Carla's book.
